Math – Round 4

Math class is almost the same as every round except this round, we started learning both 6A and 6B book combine together because we’re higher now. This round, the 4 main lessons that we had took in class is volume & words problem, data analysis, percentages and angles. While studying the data analysis lesson, we had a project in team called Data Collection which we chose a topic to research and survey to collect all the data and input into the graph. After that, we wrote a report about this study. To me, I feel like percentages is the hardest amongst these four lessons because it kinds of tricky and as you know that we always have assignments in Khan academy, so once I did the word problems in the Khan academy, it was a little tricky that it took me more time to finish those assignments. However I can overcome those problems and be able to explain my friends which make me feel so proud and impress. Also, help explaining other people makes me feel so happy when they understand the problems and this also inspired me to keep enjoying learning math. So the last lesson that we had for this round is angles and I feel this is not really difficult for me because I had learned many times before.

Multimedia – Round 4

In multimedia class this round is almost the same as last round because we’re still learning about Python programming language. However, this round we’ve did many exercise in CodeClub. In all of those exercises, I didn’t have much problems with writing the code because the code had been provided already and I can just follow the instruction that they provided. For me, It doesn’t matter if i can write all of those codes by myself or not but my goal is to just understand all of the codes and see how much did I learn from it. For example, I’ve did the RPG assignment and there are many code that provided for me already and i just have to follow the instruction and try to understand those codes. Though, it was hard to understand at the first time as it was so messy, i tried to look through it one by one with patient. When, it comes to the place that i didn’t  know or struggling to understand, i always asked my friends because this is an independent work. So, there was no teacher and I have to learned, figure out things by myself and use the resources that I have. From this exercise, I’ve learned that next time when I open the code and see many code like this exercise, I won’t be so stress and get confuse by that, I have to look at it slowly and try to understand one by one or else i will run into the problems. Overall, this round had taught me a lot, not only coding skill or lessons but also some life skills that i would need in the future.

Literacy- Round 3

Each round, we have a different theme for literacy class. This round our theme is Search For Identity. We did some writing, one is about my name that was inspired by Esperanza in “ The House On Mango Street ” book. We wrote about our own name, where is it come from, what is the meaning, do we like it or would we like to change our name and more. Despite, we wrote a poem about “I Am From” which was inspired by George Ella Lyon and this is also her poem’s template. After that, we started studying novel book, which we divided into different teams and read different books. For my group, we read “Looking For Alaska”. This book is kind of mature than my age, however, I will get through it. Not only reading but also we have discussion in group every week on Monday. In the discussion, we also have different roles such as Sumarizeer, Visualizer, Symbolizer, Inferencer and last which is Word detective. Overall, this was a really nice round and reading novel books is also my passion.

Below is my writing that I did this round:

I am From Poem

My Name

STEM- Round 3

Basically, in this round, our topic is more related to Chemistry which we learned about Carbon.  In this topic, we learned about the properties of carbon, hydrocarbon, and Carbon & living things which is the Carbon Cycle. I had learned many new terms in the Carbon Cycle which are respiration, combustion and more. During class, we did many activities in groups and what I remembered the most is answering 10 questions about the Carbon Cycle. For all these questions, I thought they’are kind of hard, however, we still did it. Along with this, we also did an experiment called Black Snake Experiment. For this experiment, we only use baking soda and sugar mixture and fuel to ignite the reaction. When the baking soda gets hot, it will produce carbon dioxide which is the black piece like a snake. After we did the experiment, our assignment was to write a lab report for this experiment and this was my first time writing the lab report. Finally, this experiment is fun, simple and I also understand more from this experiment.

Multimedia- Round 3

For the past weeks, we started learning deeply into programming, we took a lesson on “Python” which is a type of programming language and the conditions. In the first week of the round, we Learned about Python’s simple Conditionals such as Booleans, Comparisons, Indentation, If statement, Elif statement, Else statement, And, Or, Not. After that, we learned more deeply into Python For loop which is Break Statement, Continue Statement and range function. First, I felt that it’s fun, simple and not that hard, however, as we go further I didn’t feel like that anymore because it went harder and harder than it was. As we learned more conditions, there are more lines of code that we have to write. Also, it’s more difficult, sometimes, It took me so much time and I still couldn’t solve it and I felt so stressed. However, I still get through it because the teacher help explained as well as my friend. Even though it’s hard but at the same time, I found that I’ve learned a lot. Also, we practice on Codecademy whenever we finished having a lesson about it and we have assignments on Codeboard every week. To sum up, this has been a great and tough round also.

Math- Round 3

Math is always been my favorite class. In this round, we received a new workbook which is 5B. So far, I’ve been learning about the Decimal chapter, including, converting from fraction to decimal, from decimal to fraction, round the decimal, estimate the value and last the four operations which are addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Besides that, we took a lesson on the binary number as well because it related to decimal. I’ve known about the binary number a little bit before as the teacher had introduced us since the first year at Liger. We did some group activities about this lesson and also played a game about it which was so fun. No matter we received a new book, started a new round, but we still did exercises in a group and besides that, we did some old and new group activities as usual. The reason is that as you all know that collaboration and teamwork is the important skill of our future. I think that’s all we’ve learned in math class this round, and I feel like this round seems too short as we didn’t get to learned much lessons.

My Argumentative Essay- Gender Equality

On December 16th, in a restaurant, there are two mens who have different perspective are having a conversation about………  The first men is feeding his children before sending them to school. The second men is eating alone before going to work. If you want to know, let’s investigate together!

The 1st men: Are you feeding your children and send them to school every day? Is this your work?

The 2nd men: Yes! What happen?

The 1st men: This is not your role men! It’s the mother job! You shouldn’t do this.our role is to work in a bigger company and just give money to them.

The 2nd men: Is that matter if  I want to do like this, there’s no rule that this work is only for women.

The 1st men: Oh, you’re dumb! No one gonna want you to be friend because you don’t have any career and you act like a women.

This bespeak that currently there is still gender inequality between men and women. It is evident that throughout history, men and women have struggled with equality. However, they should have the same opportunities in the area of home life, work life and physical activities because everyone has their own right to follow their passion, and if not there will be a high chance of discrimination going on in the society, and the economy won’t grow well.

Home life is an area where men and women don’t get equal opportunities to do all of the work that is related to home which are washing dishes, taking care of babies, doing house work, cooking, and house maintenance. Amongst all these works, there are some specific works for only men and women like Ms. Leah Ruppanner, a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Melbourne has stated, By contrast, men are more likely to do the episodic chores such as mowing the lawn or changing the light bulbs” (Ms.Leah Ruppanner, page 1). By this, we can know that there is some specific housework for only men and women. And in those houseworks, as I have observed nowadays, most of the men’s tasks are fewer than women’s tasks, however, it requires more energy than women’s task like the above quote says.

However, there are different expectations between men and women. For example, some men really want to do all the things that women did too but because they can only participate when it is  accepted by society. This can make them feel shy, uncomfortable, hurt and that’s why they don’t do it. Again, this can also be considered as violating their rights. This can also be applied to women.

To sum up, it’s very important that women and men have the same opportunities in this area because it will decrease the discrimination in society.  Men and women have different expectations to do the work that they have passion for, so there would not be people against them and violating their rights if the society stop make a judgement on them.

In addition to homelife, currently, men and women don’t get equal opportunities in the area of worklife. For men, their big responsibility in life is working toward a career, so they have to care much about this which might cause them to feel stress, and sometimes they don’t have much time to spend with their family. Especially in Cambodia, women may not have the same opportunities as men because the society thinks that they are not strong, brave or smart enough. Related to this, there are also women who don’t receive the same pay as men for the same job or positions. In fact, an article written in the BBC news entitled, “ points out that men usually earn over 8% more than women per hour (page 1 ). However, this is not men’s fault that makes women earn less than them. So, all these gender stereotypes can’t be stopped if people or women or the society still treat men as the enemy. However, a quote from Ms.Lahle Wolfe, a former writer for The Balance Small Business, says that

“The real enemies behind gender stereotypes are ignorance, intolerance, and stagnant societies that resist change” (Ms.Lahle Wolfe, page 1).

This means that men aren’t  the enemies of gender stereotypes, in contrast the real enemies are the few reasons above which is deep underneath the gender stereotypes which is the society that does not want to change. Also, Ms.Lahle Wolfe, a former writer for The Balance Small Business, had mentioned that

“Like women, men can also be great nurturers, help-meets, and genuinely supportive of the women in their lives – but men still may not see what their partners want as clearly as women often can.”

This quote demonstrates that it’s not men’s fault  that they can’t be the nurturers or help their partners but because they just can’t see what their partners want as women often do. Also, we can say that they have the ability but they don’t have the opportunity to do so. In order to solve this problem, we should encourage women to state their wants or needs clearly. Back to men, if they have more work or more responsibilities, it could lead them to have a health problem. Like a quote from Ms. Tami Forman, a contributor of Forbes news says that,

“The combination of working more hours and feeling more responsible for breadwinning can create an unhealthy level of anxiety and stress for some men” (Tami Forman, Page 1).

For example, there is a men who is a business manager in one company has work really hard until night time, then he could come back home. Everyday, when he return home, his wife always remind and say to him in an unrespected way that you are a men, your role is to work toward a career in order to feed the family. By this, he feel really pressure and he started to feel stress. Many years passed by, he can’t work anymore. So as you are a women, don’t make them feel more responsible and always complaining to them and would it be better? if you can help them to do their work.

Despite the two areas above, Physical activity is also an area where men and women find it hard to participate. In this, as you all know that most of the men already get opportunities to be involved in physical activities or sport, whereas for girls or female, it is not. Although, according to women’s sports foundation, women face many obstacle that make it difficult for them to participate within the cost, lack of access, safety and transportation issues, and more. Moreover, According to professor Marie Murphy, a professor of exercise and health leading the Centre for physical activity and health research,

The results suggested one main reason for women’s lack of participation in recreational and competitive sport: fear. Fear of being judged by others based on their appearance, fear about their ability to take part and fear of judgement for choosing to spend time on themselves rather than on their families” (Marie Murphy, page 1).

This is  one of the main reasons why there is a lack of women who participate in sports because they fear of being judged by other people and the discrimination. Therefore, we should try to motivate them and support them for participate in sport. Sports and physical activities provide many health benefits. According to Taylor and Francis Online, a quote states that, “In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that physical inactivity is the world’s fourth leading risk factor for death (World Health Organization, 2010 World Health Organization. (2010). Global recommendations on physical activity for health” (page 1).

This illustrates that the risk factor for death is also cause from physical inactivity.  It improves our health as well as preventing from the developing of several diseases such as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. In addition to the health benefits, sports also build the important life skills such as teamwork, leadership and confidence.

In conclusion, these are all the reasons and advantages of both men and women should have the same opportunity in the area of homelife, worklife, and will be able to involve in physical activities.

Stem Class- Round 2

In stem class, this round, we basically learned about chemistry related to periodic table, chemical bonding, and starting on chemical reactions lesson. We also did some experiments to see how it works. In periodic table lesson, we studied about:

      • how elements are organized,

        Image From Google
      • The periods and groups
      • The three classic of elements which are metal, metalloid or semifinal and nonmetal.
      • The inventor of the periodic table Dmitri Mendeleev and how he arranged the periodic table and the changes over time.
      • The chemical bonding, which we learned about:
      • The importance of bonding

        Image From Google
      • Covalent bonding:
      • Single covalent
      • Double covalent
      • Triple covalent
      • Polar & nonpolar
      • Ionic bonding
      • Metallic bonding

Overall, this round I’ve gain a lot of knowledge mostly about chemistry, the periodic table and chemical bonding.

Math Class- Round 2

In math class, this round, we continued doing the exercise in the textbook and workbook and did many more activities. Mostly, in this round we learned about Geometry. That’s include the area of all polygons, such as rectangle, square, triangle, the height and base of triangle and also finding the area of the shaded part and the surface area, including cube, prism, rectangular, triangular and more. Along with that, we also did some puzzle about this. Beside, we also learned more about fraction, multiplication and division by whole number and mix number and also word problems. After that, we’ve learned about Ratio which is the last lesson of the textbook. In this lesson, i’ve learned about the fact that i didn’t know before, first i confused that ratio is the exact numbers of the amount of something, but it’s not like that because it can be simply into its simplest form. I found that this lesson is very fun and very helpful in our life. And this is the last round of studying the 5A textbook and we will continue to the next textbook which is 5B in the next round. I’m very excited about this! Also, we learned and did some coding about algebra in the code.org web site. And here what’s it look like!
